FAR FROM BEING THE BEST, BUT IT'S PASSABLE...

"Well, if this is really Hot Productions' idea of the "best" of Nightlife Unlimited, then it's obvious that the person in charge of licensing isn't doing their job properly. It pains me to write this as I'm such a fan of this group. This album is nothing more than the albums "I Love The Night In New York City" and "Power & Desire" lumped together on one CD. That doesn't make it bad, but the title is misleading. In actuality, the very best of Nightlife Unlimited would have included the disco classics "Disco Choo Choo", "Dance, Freak, & Boogie", "Love's In You", "Just Be Yourself", "Do Me Tonight", and "Let's Do It Again" for starters. It's unfortunate because the tracks here do not represent the group's best work: they're lacking in energy and enthusiasm, and they're just "OK". In fact, the "Power & Desire" album as a whole seems so much like an afterthought that it should have been scrapped altogether because it pales so next to the group's previous work. What's most telling is that the album was not even released in the US or Canada by Unidisc (which owns the whole Nightlife Unlimited catalog) but was originally relegated to a minor pressing in Holland (licensed by Ram's Head Records) with a less-than-professional cover that looked like it was done for a grade school project. Unless you're an absolute fan, skip this and look for the hard-to-find "Nightlife Unlimited" CD on Unidisc, which is a reissue of their first album with additional remixed tracks. It's a much better choice."
