"nina simone has made so many great albums but i urge you buy this excellent cdfolksy nina i managed to buy on lp in 1975 in holland and have never seen it since. it comprises of further material from the 1963 carnegie hall concert. its smooth and middle of the road but most of all classynina simone with strings is the ultimate rarity, i've been collecting her albums since 1968 and have never been able to land a copy of this. its worth getting though very classy even if the 10 short running tracks leave you wanting so much more. nina's colpix output stands out as dated compared to her philips and rca output, however, its always worth investigating - why because the genius is still there and that classical piano style is wonderfulbuy, buy, buy while you can"
An Unknown, Rare CD But Very Rewarding

"Having been exposed to Nina Simone's vast range and collection of music the past few years, it is always a joy to come across rare and unknown recordings she has made in the last 35-plus years. Happily, this rare CD is a gem. I happened upon "Folksy Nina/With Strings" at a friend's house and could not stop listening, so I borrowed it and happily purchased my own copy on Amazon a few days later. For those of us living in an age where music has to be "defined and categorized", this CD will not fit into that mold. How do you describe an artist whose repetoire of songs range all over the map from children's lullabies to Israeli folk song to Tin Pan Alley standards and back to blues and jazz? Yes, all that is contained on THIS CD!! Nina's voice is tender and caressing on some tracks, bluesy and mournful on others. She is just one helluva unique artist that we are lucky to have. I must say sound quality on this disc isn't the greatest since several tracks were copied from her 1963 Carnegie Hall concert. I'm sure the engineers did the best they could with what they had. For that, I can only award 4 stars. If you can overlook the somewhat shoddy sound quality and be beguiled by Nina's artistry, then this generous 19-track CD will certainly do the trick! Well worth your time."
