"When Simone sings Keeper of the Flame, you know why the pyramids are still there and the sun still sets. Simply fabulous, even the string arrangements which are usually annoying or overdone work here. Nothing can undermine her voice and the beautiful selection of songs here. If you have never heard Simone you could start here, or at the Live at the Village Gate disc. If you know her work already and you have not heard this disc buy it now, and let Ms Simone Take you to the Water."

"When I saw that divine cover art, and I heard the track Keeper of the flame, all of the other music that I have heard & known by Ms. Nina Simone suddenly was absolutely clear. This is a great recording in totality, but that track sums up the whole message that pervaded all of her music and her style. Simply Beautiful."
