Synopsis
Album Description It's hard to believe that, on the release of her debut album, Nivea is just nineteen years old. She's already established herself as the 'Don't Mess' queen, whether she's protecting her radio or her man & her self-titled set bristles & purrs with the kind of radio-friendly pop R'n'B that is as entertaining as it is funky. The production team on the album reads like a litany of contemporary R'n'B guiding lights with The Neptunes leading the charge alongside the likes of Organized Noise, Brian Cox, R Kelly & more. 2003 reissue includes one bonus track, 'Don't Mess With My Man' (Remix) feat. Brian & Brandon Casey of Jagged Edge & Mystikal. Jive. |
CD ReviewsGet On This ATL Style!! 05/28/2003 (5 out of 5 stars) "I take my hat off to Nivea for making this album! She did a very good job with making this her first well-known album. I especially enjoy 25 Reasons where she gives her baby all the reasons why she loves him. No Doubt is so sweet, and I really enjoy the way she compliments men on her cd instead of talking down about them. You Don't Even Know with Nick Cannon is also a very good song, I enjoy so much of this album, it's like you can't skip any of the songs, you just have to let it play! It's a happy cd and if you feel like jammin in your car or while cleaning up your place, this is what you need to pop in your cd player. Pick this item up and you won't be disappointed. Oh yeah, don't mess with her man before she has to take you to the laundromat!" The cd is good!! 4-Words | Arizona | 06/14/2003 (5 out of 5 stars) "OK ok not good...TIGHT! Right from song 1, still in love with you, to the last track (Don't mess with my man remix), the cd does not lack at all. Many of the songs are up beat which i feel makes a cd. If you were looking for a good R&B cd to listen to then 'Nivea' is for you. It's worth the money and the 5 stars." The Queen Of ATL! Bernarr Ferebee, Jr. | Ohio | 12/31/2004 (5 out of 5 stars) "01. Still In Love (9/10) - A light piano melody sampled by Alicia Meyers that did that song "Concentrate On Love" Very Good.
02. Ya Ya Ya (9/10) - The Guitar/latin like track featuring Lil' Wayne. Along with Nivea vocalizing with in the background of the hook. Excellent! 03. Don't Mess With My Man (7/10) - The first single. I didn't get the album because of this song. This is that song on the album that you can't stand, but still know all the words to. It's still ok. 04. The One For Me (10/10) - A summertime-like melody with harmony. Very nice. 05. Laundromat (10/10) - The Reason I got the album was this song. The back and forth conversation with R. Kelly about cleaning out her house. Another good one. 06. You Don't Even Know (8/10) - Nivea is completly old school. This song was sampled by James Brown, "The Payback" featuring Nick Cannon. Another mellow track. 07. Run Away (10/10) - A neptunes track featuring Pusha T of Clipse. I love this song. It's emotional and a up-beat dance track at the same time. 08. Just In Case (8/10) - One of the tracks I usually skip. A string-lead song with a come on a get it beat. Not one of my personal favorites. 09. No Doubt (9/10) - One of the real love songs of this album. Again with a light piano vibe and expressive lyrics about loving someone. 10. Never Had A Girl Like Me (9/10) - Yet another track with an up-tempo latin vibe. Also sampled from the song "Think (About It)". Originally preformed by Lyn Collins. Very good. 11. Have Mercy (10/10) - One of the most excellent "please forgive for cheating on you" song I've ever heard. Then bass line follows Nivea's emotional high notes in this song. Also sampled from the song "Clap Your Hands" preformed by Blu. 12. Don't Mess With The Radio (9/10) - The plucking of the guitar really puts the mood right for this one. Don't mess with my man, don't mess with the radio, dang, Nivea, make up ur mind girl. 13. 25 Reasons (9/10) - Giving 25 reasons Nivea is in love with this guy. I'm sure everyone can relate to atleast one of the reasons. 14. What You Waiting For? (9/10) - This song almost sounds like another version of the Inspector Gadget theme song. She gets through both verses in less than two minutes so the rest of the song is her repeating "What YOu Waiting For?". Starts to get annoying after a while. 15. Check Your Man (10/10) - Nivea again sampled yet another from James Brown's "This IS A Man's World" featuring Mystikal. Another in your face, get yourself together track. Love It! 16. Cat's Got Your Tongue (10/10) - A sexy up-beat track with cat meows and cash register sounds. A very sexy track. 17. Jewelry (10/10) - My personal favorite off the album. I'm pretty positive she sampled Rockwell's "Somebody's Watching Me". Anyway, it's a bubble pop track. 18. Problems (8/10) - My mother fell in love with this song. The vamp sounds like a commercial add or something, but it's really cute. Another favorite. 19. Don't Mess With My Man (6/10) - The remix featuring Mystikal. Not my cup of tea. OVERALL, THIS ALBUM IS THE TIHS! GET IT RIGHT NOW!!!!" |
