CD Reviews

Brown's best outing
Scott Woods | Columbus, Ohio United States | 05/22/2002
(4 out of 5 stars)

"This record is a few years old, but still Norman Brown's most consistent and highly lauded effort to date. This record walked a thin line between cheese and tradition, and kept its walk straight down the middle. His playing is strong, his songs not unbearable, and his translations pretty remarkable. This album is about as cool as smooth jazz gets anymore since George Howard left us, and that's saying a lot.If you want to see how wide-ranging and mindful contemporary and smooth jazz can be, or if you just want to hear some really strong guitar-picking, pick it up. You won't be sorry on any count, and even some of the traditionalists may find merit in the work and playing that isn't in his later albums. This is the only Brown album you HAVE to get."
"STILL AMAZING"
Howard Riesel | Long Island, NY | 10/24/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"As a smooth jazz fanatic and guitar player, there is a consistent wealth of talent that keeps my ears busy and happy.

To date, "After THe Storm" remains as my favorite smooth jazz

recording. Aside from being one of greatest guitar players, the

producing and arranging on this CD is nothing short of extraordinary.THe whole CD is excellent. It is best played in the car. The tracks are infectious. While there are many smooth

jazz CD's that are superb on all levels, this one is the "epitome" of smooth jazz guitar.Having most of Brown's discography, I still find this to be his best work. I think it's hard to top such a gem as "After The Storm"."
