CD Reviews

A must-have

"Scott "Wino" Weinrich is not just the guitar player and vocalist of The Obsessed. To many, he is a god.Dave Grohl once called him a legend and Wino was one of the first musicians he contacted to record with him on the upcoming Probot project. Scott Reeder, formerly of Kyuss and currently the bassist for Unida, played with Weinrich in one incarnation of The Obsessed during the early 90s and called him awe-inspiring. Fu Manchu, Clutch, Corrosion of Conformity, and even Metallica cite The Obsessed as huge influences on their music, and the members of Fugazi idolize Weinrich so much that his current band, Spirit Caravan, is on their label. This re-release of The Obsessed's self-titled debut full-length is on there as well. The melodies are perfect, the rhythm is heavy, and the songs are brilliantly written. This is one of the 5 best rock albums of the 1980s, period. If you don't own it, you are not a fan of heavy music. That's all there is to it."

"That is not a typo. The Obsessed's self titled is not only a landmark in the stoner rock genre... it is a classic any metal or classic rock fan should readily embrace. Wino's riffs and vocals are on another level... whether he's pounding out old school Sabbath jams on Ground Out, or playing soul-inflicted grooves (Freedom, Tombstone Highway), this man is doom's reigning king. The main riff in Forever Midnight will own your soul. The live tracks tacked on to this CD somewhat disrupt the mood, but rock hard nonetheless.. don't think JUST BUY."
