A Delightfully Entertaining Pop/Rock CD
MusicMan | Midwest USA | 11/18/2004
(4 out of 5 stars)
"Despite the name "Broken Days," most of the songs on this CD sound delightfully upbeat, including the title track. Ofra Haza wrote all the songs and lyrics except one which was co-written with guest vocalist Izhar Ashdot. The fresh, entertaining style is mostly dance/pop/rock, with electric guitar, bass, keyboards, and drums. The compositions are solid, and multiple listenings will continue to satisfy. The last two songs, "Six in the Evening," and "Sunset" are beautiful somber songs and thus diverge from the upbeat spirit of the rest of the CD. All the songs on this CD are very good.
Ofra's voice is in great form throughout, and on several songs she hits some astonishingly brilliant high notes. Ofra Haza proves here that she is not only a great vocalist but also a very talented songwriter, and a versatile musical artist. Not originally released in the USA, but now available as an import, you will be glad you picked up this little known Gem. I give it 4.5 (four and a half) stars."

"Despite the name "Broken Days", most of the
songs on this CD sound delightfully upbeat,
including the title track. Ofra Haza wrote
all the songs and lyrics, except one which
was co-written with a guest vocalist, Izhar
Ashdot. The fresh, entertaining style is mostly
dance/pop/rock, with electric guitar, and electric
bass, a drum beat, and some keyboards presumably
played by Izhar Ashdot. The compositions are solid,
and multiple listenings will continue to satisfy.
The last two compositions diverge from the dance/
pop/rock style of most the others. These two, "Six
in the Evening," and "Sunset" are somber and
beautiful. Don't let the fact that two songs
are the "same" as on the Shaday CD dissuade you
from picking up this Gem. "Play on Me" is "Take
Me to Paradise" on Shaday, and "This Pain of
Mine" is "My Aching Heart" on Shaday. This was
because "Broken Days" was an Israeli release and
Shaday was an international album. In spite of
that, the versions of these excellent songs are
substantially different on each CD so that it is
very worthwhile having both. Besides, all the
songs on "Broken Days" are very good. Ofra
Haza proves here that she is not just a great singer,
but also a very good songwriter. The songs are so
good, it does not matter that the lyrics are not in
English. Pick up this little known Gem while
you still can."
