Synopsis
Album Description Acclaimed singer/songwriter/musician Omar (Omar Lye Fook) is a seminal figure in the ever-evolving urban soul landscape. Best By Far is Omar's fifth long-player - a versatile and infectious soulful hybrid, seamlessly encapsulating all of the diverse sonic elements that have defined this visionary's career. The record presents a riveting blend of up-tempo funk-drenched Philly soul, supple bossa (taking cues from Quincy Jones? groundbreaking 1964 masterpiece Big Band Bossa Nova), and sumptuous cinematic orchestration. Omar produced the entire album himself. The album features guest vocals from Angie Stone (who duets on the sweltering remake of William De Vaughn's blaxploitation anthem "Be Thankful For What You Got") and UK soul girl / former Basement Jaxx vocalist Kele Le Roc (on the anthemic groove "Come On"). The set also includes jubilant opener "I Guess," the bossa and jazz soaked track, "Emporium," the propulsive chic meets UK street inspired "Something Real" and the hazy romances of "In The Morning." The expanded US release also includes bonus remixes of "Be Thankful" courtesy of formidable hip-hop legend Guru (of Gangstarr) and house music pioneers Blaze. The aptly titled Best By Far is another glorious stylistic achievement for Omar and easily his best collection of material to date. Similarly Requested CDs

CD ReviewsHOT SH*T Juan Haynes | THE LOU | 05/01/2004 (5 out of 5 stars) "THIS ALBUM IS HOT ALTHOUGH THIS IS NOT HIS BEST BY FAR. I AM A HUGE FAN OF OMAR'S. IN MY OPINION TO UNDERSTAND OMAR, YOU MUST OWN THIS IS NOT A LOVE SONG. I DON'T KNOW IF THE US IS READY FOR THIS BRAND OF NEO SOUL. HIS STYLE IS A CROSS BETWEEN RHYTHM AND BLUES, REGGAE, BOSSA NOVA, TO SAY THE LEAST. HE'S A BAD MAN. DEFINITELY GET THIS JOINT IF YOU ARE TRYING TO GET UP ON SOME NEW SH*T!!!!!!!" Omar IS the Best by Far M. Harris | Los Angeles, CA | 01/23/2008 (5 out of 5 stars) "There's no comparing to him. I can't think of a single male artist out there that can compare to Omar's songs and vocals (I love D'Angelo just as much as the next gal, but he's nothing like this!). This was a great purchase. I already have For Pleasure and wanted to try out more of his music. It's addicting. If you're reading these reviews, if you've gotten THIS far...go on and buy it! For real. Obviously recommendations from friends or amazon, or wherever led you here because of your taste in music. Well treat yourself to this! Fave Tracks: *Tell Me - My FAVORITE TRACK! Even listening to the 30sec sample on amazon was a joy (over and over, lol). I love when he does tracks like this. Reminds me of "Magical Mystical Way" on his For Pleasure CD. *Be Thankful - love the collab w/Angie Stone *Best by Far - Just a jazzy groove to chillout to; maybe a nice long car ride *Syleste - I love how Omar exposes me to something different...this is it *Essensual - a loungey groove, but cool, lol. I think it's fun. Love his vocals Anyway, like I said...if you've come this far - buy it. Especially before it's gone. Peace" Great cd! ready for something new! M. Harris | 07/08/2004 (4 out of 5 stars) "I got this cd as an Import 3 years ago and loved It.I got a chance to here this version and It's the same with the exception of the remixes of the 'be thankful' song.He also replaced mrs badu with mrs stone and while a good version It still makes me wonder why It took so long to get the us version released? I give this cd four stars Instead of five because It Is same cd as the old one with a few changes.I ready and hoping for new material from omar soon."
