Album Description The Open Road band is the real deal. With the combination of talent and soul, you'd be hard pressed to find a better sound in Bluegrass music today. They stick to tradition while creating new and wonderful songs that will be around for a long time. I found this band to be as much fun to watch as they are to listen to. They are experienced beyond their years, which I'm sure you will all agree, shows on these powerful recordings.-Del Williams Open Road is a dynamic, traditional-sounding bluegrass band hailing from Fort Collins, Colorado. Drawn to the classic sounds of Bill Monroe, the Stanley Brothers and Vern Williams, Open Road unearths many little-known gems from the bluegrass archives. They also write their own material, keeping one foot in the past and one in the present. They give all of it the Open Road treatment, with youthful energy, deep musicianship and classic style. Produced by Sally Van Meter. Similarly Requested CDs

CD ReviewsReal Good Grass banjoread | Bloomington, IN | 12/11/2002 (4 out of 5 stars) "These guys sing and play some of the best bluegrass today. I first saw them two years ago at IBMA in Louisville and have been a fan since then. Their vocal harmonies are spooky they're so tight. They are all great instrumentalists. They put on an awesome live show and this album, like the first one, simply rocks. BUY IT!" Pure... So pure... tracestone | Chinook, MT United States | 10/01/2003 (5 out of 5 stars) "I first heard these guys at the Targhee Bluegrass Festival in 2002. They played on a Sunday afternoon, when the crowd was burned out from three days of grass. From the moment they started playing, one could feel the energy of the crowd increase. Soon, the band was obscured behind a cloud of dust. After their set and three genuine, begged-for encores, I walked up and bought their first album. It was lovely, and 'Cold Wind' is even better. They pick great old songs, and Brad Folk's originals are so pure and heartfelt that I really can't say enough about his talent. His voice IS bluegrass, and is as distinctive as Del McCoury's or Lester Flatt's. The entire sound is incredibly driving on the ups and gut-wrenching on the downs, and is really not of this place and time. Most modern Bluegrass songwriters seem to try to force a traditional sound and subject, and they end up with uninspired, contrived tunes. Folk and Open Road NAIL the sound. Buy 'Cold Wind'." THIS COLD WIND IS HOT A Budd | Alberta | 01/19/2004 (5 out of 5 stars) "They're from Colorado. They're solid driving bluegrass. They are OPEN ROAD.OPEN ROAD is one of the top bluegrass bands around. They are favourites with fans wherever they play. This was very clear on their recent tour in Alberta. Their style is old time and traditional. It is bluegrass the way it used to be played. Their harmonies come from the heart. OPEN ROAD is youthful and energetic. On stage, they are funny too. OPEN ROAD is one of the finest traditional bluegrass bands you'll hear. Their debut CD COLD WIND will let you know why. All of this and they wear fabulous white Stetson hats. What more could you ask for?COLD WIND is on Rounder Records. This COLD WIND is hot. It is 13 bluegrass tunes fuelled with dynamic song writing and singing. This CD is also filled with tight instrumentals on every track. OPEN ROAD delivers a relevant and driving bluegrass
sound with every song on COLD WIND. This COLD WIND brings a spirited sound.OPEN ROAD is Bradford Lee Folk on Guitar and lead vocals. Caleb Roberts is amazing on mandolin and back-up vocals. On stand up bass is Eric Thorin the only native of Colorado in the band. Robert Britt moved from Chapel Hill, N.C. to play fiddle with OPEN ROAD right after graduating from high school. Keith Reed is the newest member of the band. Keith, originally from Idaho, plays banjo.OPEN ROAD is dynamic vocals combined with layers of flawless harmony all superbly wrapped in steady and strong instrumental arrangements. Bradford Lee Folk puts more emotion in any song than just about anyone you'll hear. The outstanding tracks on COLD WIND are penned by Folk. They include "Some Things Does, Some Things Don't" and "Hard Times". Caleb Roberts does a fine job with the mandolin tune "South Saluda Ramble". The strong original tunes give way to some covers that include a Doug Kershaw tune "Sally-Jo". This tune separates itself from the other tunes on COLD WIND. It let's you know OPEN ROAD can really rock it too! Open Road released COLD WIND in 2002 and it is still hot.If you haven't been lucky enough to hear OPEN ROAD play live then COLD WIND will have to do until you get a chance to catch up with them.
