Orange 9mm wowed 'em from coast-to-coast on 1996's Warped Tour, and their second album leaves little question as to why. Not to sell this riff-heavy NYC quartet short, but Tragic is twice the record anyone may have figured... more » this relatively young group had in 'em. It is a bold combination of all the best elements of '90s rock: crunching guitar, groove-heavy rhythms, aggro rap vocals, a good dose of well-placed melody, and some well-written, hook-laden tunes. Few groups could successfully bring together so many styles and make them sound so perfect together, but Orange 9mm do it with confidence and ease. Though all four members pull their weight equally, it is vocalist Chaka Malik, who rages through grinding crushers like "Fire in the Hole" and the title track, just as easily as he croons on groovy pop songs like "Dead in the Water" and "Kiss It Goodbye," who makes this album special. Unlike many of his throat-shredding contemporaries, Chaka possesses an amazing voice with range, control, and power, and he can do a whole lot more than scream with it. Orange 9mm graciously deliver their latest opus at a time when loud rock has seemingly reached another dead end with the two-dimensional, directionless aggression of the Deftones and Korn. Tragic's complexity and depth thankfully give new life to a genre too focused on mere venting. Though Orange 9mm do their share of letting off steam, they also explore the entire realm of emotions without losing an ounce of intensity. --Adem Tepedelen« less

"I have always considered Orange 9mm "my band", since few others have yet to stumble upon them. I did just that, though, through my record club, when I purchased "Driver Not Included". However, where that album was nonstop heaviness, this title spans out in numerous directions, always maintaining butt-movin', head-bangin' energy! Anyone who enjoys the "rap-metal" bands that are all the rage currently should stop at nothing to buy "Tragic". Chaka Malik knows how to do more then scream, and the production is near flawless on the disc. They put more popular bands to shame, much to the pleasure of their loyal fanbase. In short, anyone into the heavy stuff should go out and buy Orange 9mm's standout. They know how to do this kind of music the RIGHT way. Limp Bizkit my ass. - Mordeccai"

"unlike Limp Bizkut (or however they spell it) this band did not have an engineered rise to fame thanks to MTV... and if you didn't notice, this CD came out in 1995! this album has always been good and i used to listen to it religiously back in '96-'97... do not compare these guys to the limp band because that's just wrong. the singer here has every right to rap his lyrics seeing as how he is African-American. this is a rap-metal, rap-rock (whatever you want to label it) type of band, but back in '95 that was a new thing. you might listen to this album now and think it sounds washed up. and it is in some ways. but like i said... 1995! of course this comment is to the one kid who gave it 1 star... i'm sure his mother was still wiping his ass back in '95."
Shootout music!

"This album is killer to say the least, back before "bands" like linkin park and limp biskit started exploiting, milking and driving rap-rock into the ground....this forgotten group among a few other outfits really helped build the sound in the first place. Tragic is a great cd, alot of raw energy, great guitars and catchy lyrics. They really get you pumped up! Try the title track or "fire in the hole". Awesome stuff. Too bad the band broke up....in early 2000 i beleive. But i still enjoy the music they released. If you need an album to listen to while in your room playing max payne or Halo this'll go just fine!"

"I really like these guys. It is One of the best of the "unknown" bands out there. I heard these guys on a web page and really liked them, so what the hell, I bought the C.D. and I was amazed at how good these guys were. I love this C.D. and I have to give it the seal.-FM"

"orange 9mm has been around for a while now and not too manypeople have heard them despite the fact that theyre a great band.they blend elements of punk, hip hop,and rock while always maintaining a phat groove.if you havent heard them you should definately look into them for good underground rock.the whole album is good but my favorite tracks are fire in the hole, gun to your head, dead in the water, take you away, and failure.and if you like this cd then without a doubt go pick up "pretend im human" which is an awesome record with a rappier vibe to it and is the best release from orange 9mm in my opinion.oh well-later"
