Synopsis

Album Description
Marga Richter (b.1926) earned a Masters Degree from Juilliard, where she majored in piano with Rosalyn Tureck and composition with Vincent Persichetti. Her music has been played by more than fifty orchestras, including the Atlanta and Milwaukee Symphonies, the Minnesota Orchestra and the Buffalo Philharmonic, and recorded by the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Seattle Symphony and the Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra. In addition, her music has been released on M-G-M Records, Musical Heritage, Gasparo and Grenadilla. One of her best-known works, the ballet Abyss, has been performed on five continents by the Harkness Ballet which commissioned it, and by the Joffrey, Boston and Pennsylvania Ballets and other companies. Among the artists who have performed her music are Jessye Norman; pianists Menahem Pressler, William Masselos and Natalie Hinderas; violist Walter Trampler; and violinist Daniel Heifetz. Howard Harris (b.1945) graduated from Juilliard in Music Composition. He received commissions from numerous modern dance choreographers, among them James Cunningham and Lauren Persichetti, Elizabeth Keen, Linda Tarnay and Reuben Edinger. Harris wrote a number of singularly innovative and outrageously above-and-beyond-the-norm musicals: Monsieur de Peauceaugnac (Moliere), The King of the Black-Eyed Peas, Soho Promenade, The Search For the Yeti, The Wind In The Willows and The Toad In The Moon, a musical/opera based on Kenneth Graham?s book. Three of these were performed Off-Off Broadway. Harris arranged and performed his composition Frimbo for the Off-Broadway production performed in Grand Central Station, and composed and performed the music for the Actor?s Theatre Off-Broadway production of Brecht?s Galileo with Laurence Luckinbill. CD Recorded by Beatta Jankowska-Burzynska in Katowice, Poland. Post production and graphic design: Marnie Hall. Cover photo Thornton Vandersal.
