"Having just listened to Angela Lear playing Chopin, I must say how impressed I am with her great intelligence of interpretation and superb musicianship. This CD is a reading of Chopin I had not yet heard anywhere else. Ms. Lear uses marvelous dynamics in her Chopin (the composer had always been accused of playing too softly - possibly a result of the piano action of his era, and of the fact that he was really a very small, physically weak man with 'consumption', or possibly that is how HE wanted his music to be heard). Ms. Lear has a great Chopin technique - if anyone can intuit how he played never having heard him - that serves the composer and herself exceedingly well. The listener has another path into understanding the variety of music Chopin made; these scherzos, ballades and nocturnes are gem-like in Ms. Lear's hand - crystalline and perfect. His mazurkas are so amazingly rendered. Does Ms. Lear have any Polish ancestry hiding in her fingers? If you love Chopin, as I do, you cannot help but listen to Ms. Lear's playing with deep thanks. Where has she been? Why haven't we heard of her before? What a great Chopinian she is!"
A miraculous recording of Chopin at its best!

"Of the five volumes of Ms. Lear's "Original Chopin" Series, Vol. 2 contains a selection of pieces that are evidently the artist's favorites. Ms. Lear's playing is always brilliant, but on this CD, she captures the real essence of Chopin's style in a unique way, conveying both great sadness and great joy with a lovely cantabile piano style, the like of which is seldom heard in the recordings of other artists. Of all the Chopin recordings that I own, this one is my favorite because it is a truly complete expression of the emotional gamut of Chopin's piano poetry. Ms. Lear has encapsulated samples of every kind of the composer's genius in the span of a single CD. This one is a keeper for anyone who loves Chopin piano works. It is a truly astounding CD of the highest rank!"
