Synopsis

Album Description
MORE THAN A GAME - THE RISE OF NBA STAR LEBRON JAMES MUSIC INSPIRED BY THE FILM MORE THAN A GAME brings together an A-list line up of stellar artists. The brand new single from the album, "FOREVER" features EMINEM, DRAKE, LIL WAYNE and KANYE WEST - the track has become the runaway smash hit you would expect from this quartet. The album also features Mary J. Blige's "Stronger." This is the first song to be released and is a heartfelt richly textured ballad that embodies the emotions that are revealed throughout this amazing film. The album delivers dynamic iconic songs that reinforce the messages of strength, loyalty and friendship that is exemplified in film. It also boasts the debut single from one of today's most sought after songwriters, Ester Dean (Mary J Blige, Pussycat Dolls, Keri Hilson) who contributes, "Drop It Low" - currently taking radio by storm! MORE THAN A GAME documents the rise of NBA star LeBron James and four talented young basketball players from Akron, Ohio star in this remarkable true-life coming of age story about friendship and loyalty in the face of great adversity. Coached by a charismatic but inexperienced player's father, and led by future NBA superstar LeBron James, the "Fab Five's" improbable nine-year journey leads them from a decrepit inner-city gym to the doorstep of a national high school championship. Along the way, the close-knit team is repeatedly tested -- both on and off the court -- as pressures within, including James' exploding worldwide celebrity, threaten to destroy everything they've set out to achieve together. MORE THAN A GAME, directed by Kristopher Belman, combines a series of unforgettable one-on-one interviews with rare news footage, never-before-seen home videos and personal family photographs to bring this heart-wrenching and wholly American story to life. MORE THAN A GAME is being released by Lionsgate and Harvey Mason Media in association with Interscope Records.

CD Reviews

One of the better soundtracks to come out recently
M. Lindberg | USA | 09/29/2009
(4 out of 5 stars)

"NBA superstar LeBron James compiled songs from his friends in the music industry, that he felt matched the feelings of his new documentary "More Than A Game."

I haven't seen the documentary, but the soundtrack is pretty solid. Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige, Drake, Lil' Wayne, Soulja Boy, Kanye West, Eminem, T.I. are just some of the many people who can be found on this release.

There's some real solid music on this soundtrack, starting with the mega-hit and posse cut "Forever" by Drake, Eminem, Lil' Wayne and Kanye West. It's easily one of the coolest collaborations on this album and in hip-hop. Jay-Z shows up for "History," a song he released as promo to his "The Blueprint 3" last November during the Presidential Election. These two songs easily make the album worth the purchase.

Surprisingly, there are a lot of good cuts on the album though. Mary J. Blige delivers the powerful ballad "Stronger," and the Soulja Boy record "I'm Ballin" isn't bad either. The album ends with a huge r&b collaboration "If You Dream," which is a cool idea, but too many people on a record can cause it to suffer. That's what happened in this case.

This album is a good mix of proven popular artists like Jay-Z, Eminem, Mary J. Blige and Kanye West, but also has contributions from newer artists like Jared Evan and Hayes.

Overall, buy this album if you're looking for some new music to entertain you for a few months. This isn't an album you'll listen to for years to come, but there are multiple songs that you'll want in your collection if you're a fan of hip-hop and R&B."
