CD ReviewsEarly Bay Area Chicano Rock Enrique Torres | San Diegotitlan, Califas | 06/06/2000 (3 out of 5 stars) "These guys are contributing to the Rock en Espanol scene from the northern part of California as opposed to the hotbead of Los Angeles. Their brand of rock is pretty much straight ahead, with funk, ska, rap and primitive tribal thrown in for good measure. Recorded in 1994 this captures the essence of what was going on musically throughout the US in Chicano circles. Message music that is funky enough to dance to as you contemplate the state of the union for Chicanos. "500 Years " is a great song that "celebrates" the anniversary of that fateful day when the Spanish Europeans first came to America. "Xicano"is a rap song that expounds on the pride of being a xicano and the injustices we have survived to get to this point. The music on this CD is a little dated although a few songs hold up to the test of time. The focus of the album is unclear and reflects an embryonic process. A good peak into the beginnings of Rock en Espanol in San Francisco but you might be better off buying something more contemporay in this genre. Their new CD "2012" is more polished, well thought out and a general improvement from this early debut CD."
