But the Santiago, Chile-born Lopez is considerably more comfortable with flamenco puro than is Liebert, as his dynamic and fairly virtuosic "Fuego y Furia" attests. Like those of Strunz & Farah, his compositions are more pan-Latin than strictly flamenco, giving the buoyant "Fiesta Latina" and "Distancia" a hearty, authentic feel, which is coupled with a clear, sober production that brings Lopez's percussive guitar tone to the fore. --James Rotondi« less

"This CD is excellent. However, those that buy Narada's "New Flamenco" collections need to learn something very, very essential. This is not true Flamenco. Lopez is not a flamenco guitarist, and lacks the discipline to even try.. as he would admit in concert, especially "Flamenco Festivals." This CD shows incredible music songwriting skill, and is truy one of my favorites, but lacks the technical wizardry of a true NEW flamenco master.. I.E. Paco or Nunez. Nonetheless, Oscar has succeeded in capturing some very beautiful moods with this CD, as well as a great many followers."
Great gypsy fusion. Romantic. Moving. Multi-Dimensional.

"I ran across this CD at a Nature Store kiosk in Chicago. (Before Amazon.com music came into existence). I was enthralled. Oscar Lopez composes and plays from the heart and with passion. My wife loved it. If you enjoy Gypsy Kings, Strunz & Farah and Dave Grusin, I think you will completely enjoy "Heat" by Oscar Lopez. The first two cuts are fantastic and 80% of what follows is as good or better. I enjoy latin music, flamenco guitar and gypsy music. If you do too, you'll definitely enjoy "Heat." It delivers what it promises."

"I was totally enthralled with this CD. Passion reverberates in every strum, tap and pick that Oscar does. He turns my room into a fiesta of heavenly sounds and conjures all images of humanity in a single sweep. Every time I hear 'Tornado de Amor' I can't help but rejoice and weep at the same time, what a beautiful, demanding piece of music. What an amazing performer."
Simmering Latin fusion!

"A master of the nylon-string guitar, Oscar Lopez can match the brilliance of metal-strung instruments any day of the week. His flamenco-style numbers are fiery and stirring, while his slower compositions are beautifully mellow. From stirring to calming, soulful to fun, "Heat" is a nicely varied album that finds a balance between extremes. Though steeped in the traditional, minor harmonic structures of traditional flamenco, Lopez's playfully intricate strumming gives this music a predominantly uplifting feel. Joining him are Brent Gubbels on electric and acoustic bass, and Gustavo Estrada on percussion. If you like this CD, you may also enjoy the work of Robby Longley and Behzad. Oscar Lopez is also featured on Narada compilations such as "Obsession" and "Gypsy Fire."

Melody, Rythmn, and Passion IS Oscar Lopez

"Oscar Lopez has a wonderful knack for melody that grabs and engulfs the listener, and doesn't let go. The more you hear "Heat", the more you want to hear it again. The wonderful rythmns help keep the music uplifting, but no one can create such beautiful music without caring about it and executing it, without having passion as the guiding light. I like many other nouveau flamenco artists, but there is no one better or more pleasing to my ears than Oscar Lopez."
