Synopsis

Album Description
The incomparable Oscar Peterson Trio recorded almost ten-hours of music at Chicago's celebrated London House between July 11 and August 6, 1961. This outstanding three-CD set contains all of the master takes - 25 tracks and nearly three-hours of music - recorded by the trio at the London House during these dates. Although Verve edited a 5-CD box set with all of Peterson's London House recordings, it is no longer available on the market and can only be found at auctions. The trio's London House repertory is vast and showcases the group's extraordinary versatility, performing songs ranging from the traditional Billy Boy, to classic standards and show tunes like 'Chicago', 'I've Never Been In Love Before', 'I Love You', 'Yesterdays' and 'In The Wee Small Hours', to the bebop sounds of 'Woody 'N' You', and 'Tricrotism'. Lone Hill Jazz. 2006.

CD Reviews

The London House concerts
Eric Hendrich | 01/11/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Oscar Peterson is always surrounded by the finest musicians. His best known trios are with Ray Brown on bass and with Herb Ellis on guitar or, as on these discs, Ed Thigpen on drums.

Knowing almost every recording of Oscar, I think these are among his best. Fun, swing and dazzling ideas. A cristal clear recorded bass of Ray: a treat.

I listen now for more than 20 years to these recordings and I still hear 'new' things. Magnificent: so much, so good, so pure (except for the quality of the piano). The great master Oscar Peterson at his very best.

Highly recommended!

Go for the REAL Thing ! The 5-cd London House Sessions.

"Of course it's a shame that the complete 5-cd box set "The London House Sessions" on Verve is out of print at the moment.

This "Complete Master Takes................."suggests (with that title) that you will have ALL of the complete, and by now certainly legendary music, but that isn't true!

You miss almost half of almost all that splendid music of The Oscar Peterson Trio at it's creative peak, and of course half the pleasure.

This was most certainly THE ultimate jazz trio, and the world will never ever see it's equal again.

So join me in asking, begging Verve to give us this outstanding music back!

Please re-issue it, and give it a far better box, issue the music in chronological order, and give it it's place in jazz history, where it belongs!

So for all true jazz lovers I say: Go for the REAL thing, search Ebay, Gemm, Musicstack, or any other auction.

Of course it would cost you more money, but what a reward!

You'll have the REAL thing, 5-cd's of the best ever, and never the frustration of: "I wish I had ALL of this..........."

Good hunting !

Arnold van Kampen, witer about jazz."
