"Osvaldo Berlingieri was born in Buenos Aires in 1928. He rose to limelight when in 1957 became Anibal Troilo's orchestra pianist (until 1968 when formed a fabulous tango orchestra co-conducted with Ernesto Baffa, Troilo's first bandoneonist). The Baffa-Berlingieri band just lived for 3 years, but was a breakthrough in the tango history. The recordings on this CD were made in Buenos Aires for the "Music Hall" label between 1972 and 1975 with an ad hoc orchestra conformed by some of the greatest tango players of the age, completing 3 LPs where these tracks come from. Many tango journalists considered one of those LPs as the major tango album made in the '70s, and I agree. Here Berlingieri unleashed his power and imagination, sometimes going beyond pure tango and being very near of jazz, but with real tango flavour. Remarkable are his own tangos Pisicano and Contacto in Buenos Aires (this name inspired from the movie "Contact in France") and Concierto en la Luna, a great masterwork by the short lived pianist and conductorOsmar Maderna (1916-1952) which in Berlingieri's hands gets a new lease of life. Highly recommended!!"
