Synopsis
Album Description After years of entertaining crowds and opening for everyone from M. Ward to American Music Club, Our Lady of the Highway is set to release its debut album on April 7th entitled "About Leaving." Blending a bit of the Mountain Goats with a little bit Joe Pernice, the album tells the story of two hearts grown apart and surrounded by emptied beer bottles. Over two years in the making -- years that involved a fall out with their original label and a shift back to the band's DIY roots -- the songs are at once melancholy while being uplifting with moods shifts, dramatic tempo changes and a cast of lush arrangements featuring pianos, organs, pedal steel and strings. |
CD ReviewsThis is something special Adam | 07/13/2004 (5 out of 5 stars) "About Leaving is beautiful. It is melancholy. Bittersweet. It is the album you listen to over and over and over again and then come back to a year later to discover that it still makes you cry. It's the album that you associate with a particular time in your life. The album whose lyrics you find yourself repeating silently months down the road, when a particular song finally rings true in your own life. About Leaving is joyous, mournful, sarcastic. It's that one CD that you never get sick of, that one CD that becomes something really special to you. It is your own heart ... in music. Buy it." Great Music, see them live! Evan | San Francisco, CA | 05/19/2004 (5 out of 5 stars) "man I love this band. I first heard them in September of 2001 when they played a short gig at my high school and I've been following them ever since. I highly reccomend checking out About Leaving and then catching one of their shows, you won't be disappointed!" Great debut from these boys from San Francisco! Adam | San Francisco, CA United States | 03/30/2004 (5 out of 5 stars) "I've seen these guys live a dozen times opening up for American Music Club, Tommy Guerrero and M Ward (several years back) and this debut really lives up to their live show. Mixing a lot of rock with some great wurlizter, fiddle and piano, they're very reminiscient of The Mountain Goats or Ass Ponys. Slow, upbeat and subtle, it really has a range of feels that I've not seen in many current albums. A great debut!"
