"This recording is really one of my favourites. It is, without doubt, one of the finest made by the London Classical Players and it made the music of Rossini really come alive for me in the 1990s, when I bought this recording.
The percussion ensemble is something of a star player here and you'll never hear an orchestral section come more alive than this group in this recording. The stopped horn in the Il Bariere di Siviglia overture is a special moment for me. I will always want to here that choked "ching" sound on the enharmonic note in future!
A thoroughly enjoyable and bubbly recording of some very entertaining orchestral music, all played on instruments familiar to the composer and his audiences.
The running time of this disc is 60:24. I only wish that a couple of extra overtures had been included, say, the overture to "Tancredi" for instance."
