CD ReviewsJohnny and Pete's greatest 1970s album. Justo Roteta | Los Angeles, California United States | 05/16/2004 (5 out of 5 stars) "With such standout dance tracks as "Ponle Punto", "Primoroso Cantar", "Son Labori" and the stunning "El Piro De Farra" this was arguably Johnny and Pete's best 1970s release. Pete "El Conde" was always a great sonero and on this album he really outdid himself. Whenever I listen to this wonderful CD, I am reminded of all that was so great about the legendary soneros of yesteryear (Pete "Conde" Rodriguez, Justo Betancourt, Cheo Feliciano, Hector Lavoe, Ismael Quintana,Ismael Rivera, etc.)." Their best and last 1970's album together before Pete 'Conde S. | 07/15/2008 (5 out of 5 stars) "AMAZING album! A SUPERB TYPICAL Johnny Pacheco style of recording from 1973 (in the Cuban Conjunto format) consisting of 2 trumpets from (Ray Maldonado [pianist Ricardo Ray's brother] and Dominican Hector 'Bomberito' Zarzuela), the piano by Hector Pellot, the conga-drum (by Ray Castro who also sings in the chorus) the usual Tres-guitar (played by Charlie Rodríguez), the bongos/Cowbell by (Luis Mangual) and bass by (Victor Venegas) and Johnny Pacheco himself doing an amazing production, direction; chorus and flute.
GREAT arrangements that typify Pacheco's very tasteful style of music and a heavily ROCK-SOLID and MUSICALLY INTENSE album (excluding the 2 boleros (Ballads) and the Merengue Los Diablitos which is average...) Basically, there are 7 AMAZING tracks, also with FANTASTIC vocals by 'El Conde' "in his element"! DO NOT MISS IT OUT AND G-E-T I-T!!!... The classic hits from this album are: Primoroso Cantar, Ponle Punto, El Piro De Farra and Viralo Al Revés. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED and a very personal favourite in my house! My father and even my mother BOTH LOVE IT! Even Larry Harlow thinks it's their best album in one of his reviews!... Remastered By Digital Domain (Bob Katz, I imagine). Sound Quality: 8/10: Pretty good volume, good level of bass and original sound properly kept in the remastering. (A little bit better in volume and sound quality than the original Cd from the 1990's which I also had.) " |
