"This is a real change of style for the Pacific Ocean-from the tension between Ed Baluyut's Neil Young-inspired guitar volume and Connie Lovatt's understated talk-singing on their great 1999 album "Less than the needle, more than the shotgun", the band's playing has changed to a looser, quieter interplay that nestles around Lovatt's vocals but never upstages them. Ex-Versus drummer Baluyut still provides his trademark guitar/drums groove on I'm Part of Everything Again, and cranks up the volume on a couple of tracks, but on most of the album the band put their trust in a minimalist, atmospheric approach which was no doubt inspired by pseudonymous producer Bill Callahan (of Smog). The results are quietly intense and pretty compelling. If you like Seam, or Versus' quieter moments then you'll like this."
