""Easy jazz," the excellent liner essay dubs these fabulous performances. Easy on the ears, yes, and sophisticated in the extreme--what marvelous timing and technique. More than anything, Page and his fellow musicians make these amazing and complex arrangements SOUND easy--as in, easy to play. Which they are definitely and decidedly not! Impeccable on every level. The vocal harmonies, while not quite Hi-Lo's in precision, are extremely well-done. This CD is a great replacement for my crackly copy of the Tops LP edition of 1956--I could stand a little more punch to the sound, but I'm simply glad this gem is out there in digital form. It would be a crime against our species not to preserve this masterful material for future generations. As good as "easy" jazz gets. (I love this CD, by the way.)"

A fine set

"Although this late 50's set is a fine cocktail date, it doesn't swing as hard as his more recent recordings do, and there may be too amny vocals for some. Cavanaugh's piano playiing is as swinging as ever, but overall this set doesn't swing as hard as most of his sets do. The hardest swinging instrumentals here are Blue Room, The Way You Look Tonight, and Nobody's Sweetheart. The cd overall is enjoyable, and perfect for cocktails. Fun msuic!"
