Synopsis

Product Description
1988 LIVE PERFORMANCE IN DALLAS, TEXAS Hailing from Arlington, Texas, Pantera was formed in 1981 by the Abbott brothers drummer Vinnie Paul and guitarist Dimebag Darrell (at the time known as Diamond Darrell) - along with vocalist Terry Glaze - bassist Rex Brown joined the band the following year. Starting as a glam metal band, Pantera released four albums during the 1980s. Looking for a new and heavier sound, Pantera replaced Glaze with Phil Anselmo in 1987. With its fifth album, 1990's Cowboys from Hell, Pantera introduced a groove metal sound, and the record has since been hailed as a groundbreaking work in this sub-genre. The show featured on this CD, taken from a live FM radio broadcast from The Basement venue in Dallas, Texas, in the final weeks of 1988, finds the band on the cusp of change. With a heavier and somewhat more aggressive sound than had previously been present in their work, which was now being touted as thrash rather than glam metal, Pantera were ready to bring it on . It would be another 18 months until Pantera would release their classic groove metal masterpiece, but in anticipation this gig features an early rendition of Shattered from Cowboys from Hell as a taster of what was just around the corner.
