(5 out of 5 stars)

"Fresh off of the massively wonderful Handmade and Looking Thru Klaus Doldinger organized his first of two seperate Doldinger Jubilee Concerts. You could call it a mini festival for some of the great jazz-funk artists of the time to come aboard ship and play with Doldinger's very talented band Passport in mutual collaberation.Big name guests here include Brian Auger,Johnny Griffin and Alexis Korner-along with the somewhat lesser known Volker Kriegel (I need to find out who he is) and Pete York. Four of the six tunes presented here are Doldinger originals taken from the first four Passport albums-"Handmade","Schirokko","Rockport" and "Lemuria's Dance". The first two songs are presented in a slightly livelier arrangement then the studio versions but close enough for comfort."Rockport" is another matter entirely;it stretches the studio version right out to near 10 minutes as Passport and all the gues stars transform the song into one of THE JAMS of the Euro jazz-funk movement (one of the ultimate of course being Passport's 1976 "Ju-Ju Man" from the Infinity Machine) Alexis Korner pretty much takes the lead in the traditional blues "Rock Me Baby"-not exactly the typical Passport sound but it's very compelling to hear how well Klaus, drummer Curt Cress and bassist Wolfgang Schmid play the blues. "Lemuria's Dance" is also baught into a whole new life by Brian Auger's intense organ playing (or slamming depending on your point of view lol).Taken together this thankfully recorded live concert is not only one of a very few not intruded upon by accessive audience noise but the recording is so crisp it's hard to believe this wasn't a doctored up studio recording-it's not.But it's worth it for any Passport fan who have waited for Wounded Bird Records to complete their CD reissue series of Passport looking for albums like this. And even though it comes as a very pricey Japanese import in one of those hard-to-store vinyl replica digipacks the music within more then makes up for those tiny hassles. So if found at a relatively low price this is certainly worth picking up."
