"I have loved french music for years, and purchased Patricia Kaas' "Scenes de Vie" on the recommendation of a friend. While a studio session does provider a 'cleaner' sound, there's nothing to compare with the power and grace of a singer live - particularly, quand la femme chantes les blues!I have been listening to this set for several days during my 3-hour commute round trip and appreciate it tremendously. This is highly recommended. I think my driving is even a bit more civilized, now."
Her best performance yet...

"I discovered Patricia Kaas' music not too long ago, and since, her voice has really conquered me. A lot of Americans may not know her yet, but her music is just incredible, and seeing her in concert in Paris at the Olympia last June was an unforgettable experience. As soon as the CD of the concert was made, I was anxious to get it, and I must say that I was not disappointed. On the contrary, I was mesmerized by the richness and power of her voice, just as I remembered from her live performance in Paris, and of course, brought back the memories of seeing her in person. I am a very big fan of hers, and I think that if you are considering getting this CD, you won't regret it. Also try her Dans Ma Chair album, which is more poppy than her previous ones. Her songs with the great quality of her voice will surely catch your attention. Rendez-vous live is certainly worth while, and to those of you who don't know, there is already a video available, but only in Europe--I really look forward to its release in the US. Alors, allez-y tous, achetez le double Rendez-vous, car vous ne le regretterez pas!"
What a show

"I visited the show in Oostende Belgium late july 1998. It was fantastic. Patrica is a radiant personality on stage. Her voice is more husky and low than on cd which works really well in the theatre. I was a bit disappointed though by the track choice. Two-thirds of the songs were from her more bluesy period (mms chante le blues, regarde les riches) and I think international audiences (especially Dutchmen like myself) prefer the later, more poppy sound. She should have done more songs from the brilliant Dans Ma Chair album. Still: Patricia is a superstar. If you have a chance, do visit one of her performances. If you don't have that chance: buy this album for comfort."
No match for her studio work, but great anyway...

"I love this lady's voice, but throughout this concert set she allows a very pronounced vibrato to overpower the material. The notable exceptions are "Entrer Dans La Lumiere" (my pick as best performance of the show,) "Je Me Souviens De Rien," and "Chanson Simple." ..... Additionally, the backup chorus and production values don't have the richness or impact of the studio versions, but those may have more to do with the inherent limitations of live performance. Don't expect an American-style arena ambiance here - the atmosphere is intentionally that of a smoky jazz club which is unique for a concert and works very well. There is some stunning cello work on disc one, which blends beautifully with Kaas' voice and emphasizes that nightclub ambiance. ...... A label on the cellophane wrap mentions a video version of the concert available as of September '98. This presumably was the European release date - so far neither the American VHS release nor news of it have shown up here, but hopefully Amazon will offer it immediately upon its arrival. Both the packaging and content indicate an awesome visual production."
