CD Reviews
I've been waiting so long for this!

"Those of you who have been reading my music reviews know that Patti Page is one of my favorite vocalists. But of my three top favorites, she is the one least represented in my personal CD collection. Not because I don't love her voice, but because the people who create CDs have not seen fit to put a lot of her recordings on CD. The biggest hits, yes, but not much more. This CD helps remedy that situation.
This CD contains some of Patti Page's second-tier hits, some of the nicer tracks from her LP albums, and a few obscure singles. For some reason, they have chosen to include "Allegheny Moon," which is one of the big hits and is quite available, but by and large, this is an attempt to present some of the harder-to-find Patti Page recordings. And in fact one of the tracks, "I Can't Tell a Waltz from a Tango," is one of her minor hits that I've been trying to get into my collection for over a year. Most of the others are equally rare.
Two of the songs, "Let Me Go, Lover!" and "Born to Be with You," are songs that were big hits for other artists; in fact, the Patti Page version of "Born to Be with You" was never issued as a single in the United States, because the Chordettes had such a big hit with the song that Mercury didn't want to try to compete. (Patti Page, as she often did, recorded multiple tracks of this song, so she was her own vocal group! As a result, this version and the Chordettes' sound more alike than one might think.) Some of the songs that the liner notes say were not hits at all are songs I remember, while I don't remember some that charted according to the liner notes, so I think they must be using different charts than the DJ I listened to, but this does not detract from the quality of this CD.
All those who like `50s pop music, or Patti Page in particular, need to get this CD.

"I too have long waited for this collection. In the summer of 1955 PIDDILY PATTER PATTER was probably my favorite song on the radio. It climbed to number 25 on the Cashbox Top 50.....and many other of Patti's forgotten hits (a number of which did not make the Billboard charts which numbered only 20 to 30 positions) but charted on Cashbox are here including the title tune KEEP ME IN MIND (number 26), NEAR TO YOU and I LOVE TO DANCE WITH YOU (both top 50 bestsellers) as well as great flip sides like SEARCH MY HEART, EVERY TIME I FEEL THE SPIRIT and THE VOICE INSIDE.
One of Patti's best ballads ever is also included here: TOO YOUNG TO GO STEADY.
The last 4 tracks are great LP only tracks which show that Patti was not only a great singles seller but a marvelous interpreter of the GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK.
Get it!!!!!
Patti fans now await the lost late 50s/early 60s Mercury singles on CD like THE WALLS HAVE EARS, TRUST IN ME, LITTLE DONKEY, GOODBYE CHARLIE, YOU'LL ANSWER TO ME.

"This album is pure delight. So many of these songs I remember as a young boy. I can remember singing along with Piddily Patter Patter, Little Crazy Quilt, and Hocus Pocus ( my favorite Patti Page song) I did not think I would ever see these on cd. I was also charmed to hear Voice Inside, Everytime I feel the Spirit, and many songs I had never heard like the duets with Rusty Draper. I do wish there would not be so many repeats in the album like Allegheny Moon, Mama Doll Song, Go On with the Wedding, Mama From the Train,Steam Heat, all respectable hits and the compilation could have included more lesser songs like "I love you Because, Fibbin, Goodbye Charlie, Bring Us Together, Longing to Hold you, Everyday, and You will Find your love in Paris. Now that would be genius.
Somehow these compilation guys don't seem to do their homework, and always give us repeats. Many of these songs were on the outstanding Mercury vol 1 and vol 2 release.
But I still have to give it 5 stars, simply for the forgotten memories sung so beautifully by the singing rage."
