"When I heard Paul DiAnno was re-recording a bunch of early DiAnno-era Maiden classics I was dubious. I thought to myself, what a shameless attempt to cash in on past glory, and it is but the CD still kicks ass! How can it not? Look at the track list:
Wrathchild
Strange World
Charlotte The Harlot
Killers
Prowler
Murders In The Rue Morgue
Running Free
Remember Tomorrow
Phantom Of The Opera
Sanctuary
Women In Uniform
Iron Maiden
Paul DiAnno's post Maiden output has been pretty shoody but he is one of my favorite vocalists and by far my favorite Maiden vocalist. His reason for redoing these songs is that the production on the first couple of Maiden albums was sub-par. This may be true of the first album but the second sounds fine to me. He employed 6 guitarists, 3 bassists and 3 drummers for this CD so DiAnno wasn't messing around. The end result is suprisingly good. Are these tracks better than the original? Not neccessarily but they all sound pretty killer. DiAnno sings his balls off and the musicianship is top notch. I would love to hear DiAnno record The Number Of The Beast album. If only Steve Harris and DiAnno could come to some sort of agreement... DiAnno fans have always wondered what that album would have sounded like with Dianno instead of Bruce Dickenson on the mike."
