Synopsis
Album Description Paul Halley creates an exciting new repertoire for the unique ensemble of piano, pipe organ, and harpsichord. As beautifully crafted as the instruments on which they are performed, Halley's mutli-layered and multi-faceted arrangements present an astonishing new sound for a rarely heard ensemble. With melodies that evoke images from island shores to the steppes of Russia, with rhythms that derive from Renaissance dance to contemporary jazz, Halley delivers music with an enormous range of expression. CD ReviewsBillboard Review Right On! Clara Ruckpositive | United States | 05/27/2000 (5 out of 5 stars) "I couldn't imagine what the sound of overdubbing piano, harpsichord and harpsichord would sound like. I was amazed at the beauty of this recording. The melodies are simply gorgeous, the harmonies jazzy and the rhythms, right in the pocket. It is an easy listner but by no means unsophistocated. On the contrary, it is musical genius. I am now a Paul Halley devotee and can't wait for the next release!" Powerful ediemay | Ontario, Canada | 01/15/2001 (5 out of 5 stars) "While on Christmas vacation I listened to the MPR program "Pipedreams"and immediately ordered Triptych! I have played it continually and have ordered other copies for friends. Nightwatch has been a favorite of mine for a long time...and Triptych is another amazing Halley CD .. I have also just purchased the new CD Untraveled Worlds...and this choral album is out of this world. The first track also features Jamey Hadded. More please Paul Halley" One of the best Halley CD's ediemay | Ontario, Canada | 06/10/2000 (5 out of 5 stars) "I was fortunate to be in New York at a "Nightwatch service at the Cathedral of St.John the Divine...and was thrilled when Paul Halley's Nightwatch CD was issued. I've waited a long time for another organ album...and what a thrill to have not only an organ album, but combined with piano and harpsichord. This album has gorgeous melodies, some meditative..some with a jazz flavour, all beautifully performed. I only hope that I do not have to wait so long for the next CD. It would be wonderful to get three...one just organ...one just harpsichord..and one just piano...to make a pair with Pianosong."
