Synopsis

Album Description
The fourth release in the Under the Influence compilation series comes from one of Britain?s most respected songwriters, Paul Heaton. As founding member of two of the UK?s most successful bands - The Housemartins in the 80s and currently The Beautiful South, Heaton?s wry and witty observations of every day life have resulted in a string of top ten hits and million selling albums for him over the past 18 years. Heaton continues to record and tour with The Beautiful South whilst pursuing his solo career under the guise of Biscuit Boy. Following in the foot steps of past compilers Morrissey, Ian Brown and Paul Weller, Heaton introduces the listener to some of his all time loves, and in his case it?s a gloriously soulful mix of country, rhythm and blues, folk, hip hop and soul. The album is a genuinely joyful ride, with some beautiful tracks from artists such as Al Green, Manu Chao, Ugly Duckling, Willie Nelson, and Hem.

CD Reviews

Great compilation by Paul, but it is NOT music by Paul

(4 out of 5 stars)

"I'm disappointed with the fools who have reviews up here already, but people will be people, I guess. The thing you HAVE to know before buying this album is that it is NOT music by Paul Heaton, it is a collection of music by others that Paul Heaton considers influential. It's part of a great ongoing series put out by DMC - I recommend checking out the entire "Under the Influence" series.

That being said, this is probably the best out of that outstanding series. It's got great funk, soul, country (which I normally loathe), rock - it's a crime that there aren't audio samples available for this CD, because it's an outstanding ghoulash.

I heartily recommend this CD for anyone who is looking to expand their musical horizons."
