"I stumbled across Paul Kelly's CD, GONNA STICK AND STAY pretty much by accident, and I'm glad I did. The CD is basic Southern Soul with all the songs written by Kelly. The music is basically in the Stax, Hi, and Malaco
tradition, but with a little less grit, and with sparer instrumentation. The band consists of only 3 pieces - drum, bass, and some VERY nice guitar by Michael Toles. The usual soul music horns, organ, and/or piano are absent - but the band provides a surprisingly full and solid sound. Kelly, is a very nice singer in the Southern soul tradition and his songs are infectious and very appealing. I really like 9 of the 11, and you can't ask for much more than that.
As a point of information, this CD is NOT by the apparently better known white Australian Paul Kelly. THIS Paul Kelly is a black soul singer from Miami.
I took a gamble on this CD and this time I won. Highly recommended for Soul/R&B fans. And even the fans of the Australian Paul Kelly might like it.

"I'm sorry that the other reviewer was misled as to which Paul Kelly this was, but this is certainly a very solid R&B album. Very much in the Al Green mold. I've owned it for years and enjoy it every time I play it. You don't have to have it, but you won't be disappointed that you do."
