"compared, why I'm not entirely sure, to Tony Williams's Blue Note debut, Lifetime (yeah ... they're both percussionists and composers, bandleaders, to be sure. I mean, come on, that's about where the similarity ends). that said, this is the far-superior recording, with this title, both Motian's debut as a leader and one of the best ever ECM recordings, period, proving to be great, stimulating listening straight through. a strong, strong example of early 70s avant-garde jazz that has held up well with time. almost but not quite five stars..."
