Paul Shanklin provides another great parody album

"Being a huge Paul Shanklin fan, I was eagerly awaiting another album for the upcoming election, and I wasn't dissapointed. Mama Told Me Not to Run is another stellar performance, filled with song parodies and word skits, this album did not disappoint. Paul runs the gambit, from the election of Arnold S. in California, to the Democrat Primaries of 2003-2004. My favorites include Born to be Mild, about Joe Liberman, and Kerry's Not Our Favorite Son, which is a great parody of Kansas's Carry On Way-ward Son. I also enjoyed the Howard Dean and Senator Robert Byrd ones, as they are two people that almost ask for parodies.



This is a great album for all stripes of political junkies, even if they don't agree with Paul Shanklin, as he is the master parody artist for Rush Limbaugh. Even I laugh at the ones about George W. Bush, from this one to his earlier ones, such as The Usual Suspects and Vice Vice Baby. The only thing I had a question on was the last unlited skit, As the Worm Turns, it is just strange.

"Finally, Shanklin's got a new album out! I jumped on the gun and ordered it for my brother for Christmas. However, I soon discovered that he intended to order it for ME for Christmas. So on Thanksgiving, I had to present it early, tell him that I had already ordered it, and that we would just go in together to buy it, and get different Christmas gifts. What the heck, an early Christmas present on Thanksgiving. We got to listen while cleaning up after Thanksgiving dinner.



The CD opens perfectly: in the room with bickering Democrats, the nine donkeys (Rush called them nine dwarves, I called them the Nine Ringwraiths); Jesse Jackson, Joe Lieberman and Carville star, among all the others gathered together in one room and scheming together, with a big band orchestra opening. Finally, James Carville stands and begins lecturing them about how they have to "acccceeeeenntuate the negative" in order to win.



Lieberman "belting" out in his characteristic moan/whine/groan about how he was "born to be miiiiilllld" is priceless. (I thought I hadn't heard the song before, but it's one of those overused songs that is repeated on commercials and previews and drives you nuts, so Joe's rendition is hilarious)



Clinton reminds everyone that he is so beautiful in a love song (to himself) similar to his previous "hit" about how "It's All About Me".



Ah-nuld reminds us what he wore as a young weight-lifter; an itsy-bitsy, teeny-weenie....



Amerika, visions of an ultra-politically correct world, depicts what happens if marriage became redefined (at the moment, it`s being pushed for gays, but after that, the sky`s the limit! Arf arf!) , followed directly by a longer, different encapsulation of the same idea, when "Me and Drew and a Guy Named Wu" all want to get married.



Howard Dean's wife asks him where he wants to go vacation, and Howard tells hem in his most endearing and unique methods. "We're going to South Carolina! and Oklahoma! and Arizona! and North Dakota! and New Mexico! and California! and Texas! and New York! And we're going to South Dakota! and Oregon! and Washington! and Michigan! AND THEN WE'RE GOING TO WASHINGTON D.C. TO TAKE BACK THE WHITE HOUSE! AAGHHH!"



Back by popular demand, Shanklin's Elvis croons about how "Weissman says that it's time to sue" because he can't stop eating fast fooooooood.



All these and loads more are fresh off the campaign trail of 2004, and just in time for Christmas too. Shanklin's had you laughing your head off before, and this album will be no exception; now that Bush beat the tar out of Kerry, it's time to chill out, relax, and stop taking liberals so seriously. I highly recommend this for any politically-inclined friend you know, especially since the album is just in time for Christmas. Or maybe you just want to get it for yourself. It's worth it either way.
