Synopsis

Product Description
Raven presents two classic albums on one CD for the first time from master song writer PAUL WILLIAMS: Just an Old Fashioned Love Song (1971) and Here Comes Inspiration (1973). As the writer of wistful, melancholic love songs, Williams penned major AOR hits for the Carpenters ('We've Only Just Begun', 'Rainy Days and Mondays'), Helen Reddy ('You and Me Against the World') and Three Dog Night ('An Old Fashioned Love Song', 'Out in the Country'). He also recorded an incredible run of albums as a performer in his own right. In collaboration with fellow writers Roger Nichols and Kenny Ascher, Williams imbued his songs with uncluttered arrangements, enticing melodies and introspective lyrics, making many of them pop standards in the process. Just an Old Fashioned Love Song was his first album for A&M Records and is rightly regarded as his best. It features his own versions of the hits 'We've Only Just Begun' (surely his signature song) and 'An Old Fashioned Love Song'; other highlights include 'Waking up Alone', 'Gone Forever' plus a cover of Graham Nash's 'Simple Man'. His third A&M album Here Comes Inspiration revisits all of his strongest artistic points with his versions of 'You and Me Again the World', 'Rainy Days and Mondays' and 'That's What Friends are For'. 'William's music remains subtle, reflective, poignant, sophisticated and contains some of the most enduring melodies of the 1970s' - All Music Guide. With superb quality audio, detailed liner notes and color booklet.
