CD Reviews

One of Pearl Jam's Favorite Performances
Curt Whitacre | Cincinnati, Ohio United States | 03/04/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"A great "Sonic Youth" set opened up this phenomenal Pearl Jam show (one of their fave pics; and listen for the "Baba O'Riley" synthesizer riff at the beginning of the show!). While this show lacked the usual "Who" or Neil Young covers, Pearl Jam made up for that with a collection of some live rare songs. Vitalogy and No Code made suprisingly good showings in the set. Daughter contained a great sing-a-long and Ed talked politics (and Nader). While this show lacked the emotional intensity of its predecesor, the band were in far lighter moods in Columbus. Ed carried Mike McCready around on his shoulders for one song, joked with the audience about being music students, and watched in awe of a great rendition of Ledbetter. A great show with some songs you VERY rarely hear live. If you're a Pearl Jam fan looking for the best of the tour, I would recommend buying both Ohio albums (and I am biased because I went to both over the summer). Ed himself noted on this album how good Ohio had treated them. Well, here's an Ohioian saying that Pearl Jam treated us just as good.*note: Sonic Youth performance is not on this CD"
One Of Pearl Jam's Top 6
Nicholas Tieu | Columbus, Ohio United States | 03/01/2001

"The concert was outstanding. Rated in the top six for the first leg of Pearl Jam's North American tour, the band showcased alot of rare songs that they don't usually play in concert. The including of Whipping and In My Tree surprised me and the show played alot of tracks from the lesser popular Vitalogy and No Code lp's. A fairly lengthy set, fans and goers of the Columbus show will not be dissapointed by the quality of this bootleg. Druming and guitar sounds are more fluid than the european releases and most of Ed's dialogue to the crowd is left intact. Even for those who didn't attend the show personally, I am sure you will enjoy this set as McCready includes tags of Van Halen and Iron Maiden into the set closing YL. Ed's ability to play the Romanza before Better Man is also commendable. And for you band wagon fans out there ... yes they did play Last Kiss."
Un-freaking-believable

"I bought this 2-cd set the day it came out, and I was not disappionted one bit. This series of "bootlegs" (although they should be called "anti-bootlegs") from their North American tour sounds much better than the Europe series. Although I was not fortunate enough to attend this concert, this set perfectly recreates the experience. Some of my favorite highlights:"Breakerfall"-This song opens the concert, and it is perfect to set the mood for the entire concert. I didn't like the album version of this song that much, so I was surprised to enjoy it this much."Hail, Hail"-My all-time favorite PJ song."Corduroy"-Usually an opener, but I could tell this got the crowd pumping. Probably the best version I've heard of this song."Nothing As It Seems"-Easily my favorite track. When I first heard this song, I thought that there was no way that this song could be pulled off live. Fortunately, I was dead wrong."Lukin"-Ultra-fast paced, and makes you wonder how Eddie Vedder still has vocal chords."Insignifigance"-My favorite song off their latest album. In my mind, there is no such thing as a bad version of this song."Present Tense"-If any Pearl Jam song could be called beautiful, it would be this one.As you can tell, there are many great moments to be found in this set. I give this the highest possible recommendation to any Pearl Jam fan, die-hard or casual."
