CD Reviews

Pete Anderson, Guitar Guru and Multi-Instrumental
Gloria Lynn | Planet Earth | 10/05/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"When I first got Daredevil, I listened to it and listened to it hard.

It was a long awaited musical adventure where Pete Anderson not only shows his guitar and song-writing talents, but his talents at playing a multitude of instruments including drums.

All of the songs are self-penned and it goes from bluesy and jazzy to chicken pickin' down home romps. I have not yet been able to pick a favorite from this master of guitar, but I can guarantee, it is definitely on my must have and must play list on a daily basis.

After buying this album, I have found the beauty again of solid intrumental albums. I'd rate it 10 stars."
Highly creative (but, ouch, the drum machine is painful)

(3 out of 5 stars)

"Pete Anderson may not be a name that pops to the forefront when thinking about innovative guitar players, but he is quietly carving out a niche for himself. The highly creative "Daredevil" offers a sound somewhere between the worlds of Ben Tavera King and the Latin Playboys-not exactly fodder for the masses.

The arrangements shine here: sometimes minimal but layered with unexpected horns or keyboards that seem to slide under the guitar. The pause then refrain in Sweet Delta Sunrise, for example, shows the off-kilter approach that characterizes this set. Mr. Anderson's fretwork shows that the years spent as Dwight Yoakum's guitar player may have provided a comfortable living but not showcased all facets of his skills.

But there is one problem, at least for me, with "Daredevil." That is the drum machine: I cannot listen to more than four or five tracks before I start getting a pounding headache. The drums are too loud, call too much attention to themselves, and force me to take away a star in my rating.

Daredevil DEFINITELY Worth The Wait!

"I heard about Pete Anderson's album Daredevil for a long while before it was released and it was DEFINITELY worth the wait. Once again, Pete has stamped another great album with his legendary and signature full-out, bluesy-rock guitar perfection. I can't say what track is my favourite, they're all great! I play this album often and just love it. Another outstanding album from Pete Anderson and the folks at (...)"
