"Peter Maffay's family leaving Romania was denied entry into the USA when he was a boy. So he brought rock and roll to Germany where they eventually settled. (His Mother is German). Maffay admired Elvis, and some of his work bears that influence. But with his own resonant 4 octave voice, and natural abilities, Maffay has always been his own man. This album is indeed a powerful presentation by "Der Rocker mit Gefühl"( The rocker with feeling") from The classic style of: 1. "Rock'n Roll.(Girls, Coke-a-Cola..mmmm rock'n roll! to the tender "Mein Kind" (My child) Topics, music, voice and arrangements are superb. 2.Love will be forbidden ( sequel Greenlight for Emotions appears on "Der Weg")3.Uber Sieben Brücken Mußt du Gehen, first nicely done by the German pop-rock group Karat, is given Maffay's fervor and you feel what he knows about life. Maffay re-released this song a second time with a harder rock edge, and all versions are great. 4. Is it Good-- is it Bad (...A yes, or a No, I hate mediocrity/indecision) 5. Don't you believe it! 6. Revenge 7. Because you give it 8. Then has the devil his first triumph over us.(sharp, cool, blues harp in this tune) and so it goes...Every song here is so good, it's too difficult to choose a best of album..You don't need to speak German to love this singer his band and this album."
This is a powerful piece of work!

"I first heard this album/CD back in 1980, my first year in Germany. At that time Peter Mafay was all the rage. Several years later when I returned to Germany, Mafay was very much alive and well, but no longer regarded as the "German Elvis" that he was when "Revanche" was released. In fact, Peter Mafay was never Elvis. "Revanche" is a seriously deep work. It is worth the price for the song "Ueber Sieben Bruecken Musst Du Gehen" (One Must Cross Seven Bridges), a song that deals with life's trials and tribulations."
