Martin returns to the studio with his long time collaborators Reuben Rogers, bass; and Greg Hutchinson, drums; a trio that currently backs Grammy-award-winning vocalist Dianne Reeves. In The P.M. also features MAXJAZZ recording artist and vocalist Erin Bode on three of the eleven tracks. All arrangements are by Martin, who produced the album and wrote two of the eleven songs. In The P.M. presents over 60 minutes of fresh repertoire in a trio setting. The album begins with Martin?s crisp take on "Never Let Me Go" by Jay Livingston and Raymond Evans. Stevie Wonder?s classic composition "If It?s Magic" follows with Martin providing rich harmonic content over the melody. Next is Martin?s upbeat rendition of Cole Porter?s song "You?d Be So Nice To Come Home To" that features a driving solo by Greg Hutchinson and a vocal contribution by Erin Bode. Martin gives a moving solo performance on the standard "Come Rain Or Come Shine." The trio returns at a faster pace for Martin?s first original offering "Modern Cacophony". Martin draws us in with a slow, intimate opening solo on "Only In A Dream" by Jessie Davis. Martin?s second original, "The Answer," provides open space for the bass and drums, allowing Martin to punctuate on top of the rhythm. The trio slows to a steady pace again on the lovely ballad "Lament" by J.J. Johnson. Bassist Reuben Rogers contributes an original titled "?Ting For Ray," showcasing the trio?s ability to cut loose in a bluesy groove. The final two selections "The Nearness Of You" and "It Could Happen To You" are lovely piano duets with vocalist Erin Bode.
