An interesting alternative to Rhino's "Very Best Of" collect

"While I am usually quite leary of most low cost "collections" on odd-ball labels, I am very pleased to report that "Peter, Paul & Mary: The Platinum Collection" is the rare exception to this rule. More times than not what you wind up getting are cheap re-recordings of the groups original material. Happily, this is not the case here. As far as I can tell all 25 tracks on this marvelous disc are the original Warner Brothers recordings.



"Peter Paul and Mary: The Platinum Collection" features several tunes you will not find on Rhino's 2005 "Very Best of Peter Paul and Mary" collection. The Rhino collection is really aimed at collectors and more general audiences. But I would fathom a guess that most loyal fans of the group would actually prefer the selection of tunes offered in "The Platinum Collection". While you will find several of the groups hit singles included on this disc you will also find a good many tunes from some of the groups later albums. I was particularly pleased to see such memorable songs as "Light One Candle", "Right Field", "No Easy Walk To Freedom", "El Salvador", "I'd Rather Be In Love" and "Weave Me The Sunshine" included in this package. For me, a highlight is the inclusion of PP&M's wonderful and hard to find recording of Bob Dylan's "Forever Young". That tune originally appeared on the groups 1978 comeback LP "Reunion" which has yet to be released on CD.



"The Platinum Collection" was released in 2004 and is imported from Singapore. It has been my experience that releases like this one tend to be available for only a limited amount of time. So if you are the least bit interested I would grab one online right away. Very highly recommended!"

"Back in the day of vinyl albums, we called the best quality recordings "high fidelity." The quality of this CD import is unbelievably clean and pure on a good player. Most of my old favorites are on this disk, as well as several that I either had not heard before or had forgotten over the years. Vintage PPM at their best! Also enjoyed "Forever Young" on the last track. Album contains a booklet with a short bio and lyrics to all the songs. You will not be disappointed with this CD."
