"I have had "Power Praise" from Petra in my album collection for about a year, but only recently did I finally get around to listening to it. Now that I have, I realize something that I was not aware of.It wasn't until late 2000 and early 2001 that I began to hear praise and worship music on my local Christian radio station. Shortly after 9/11, I started to buy various praise & worship CDs. Most of the CDs I bought had been released in or later than 2000. For whatever reason, I thought the Christian mainstream popularity of praise & worship music started around that same time.I have just been proven wrong."Power Praise" was released in February 1995, making it the earliest mainstream praise & worship CD released that I am aware of.This CD is a collection of 9 Petra styled praise & worship songs from 8 of their previous albums. In addition, Petra has created an album-titled song compilation of many of the songs.Formed in 1972, and signed to Myrrh in 1973, Petra is considered by most to be the original Christian Rock-n-Roll artist. Though largely ignored by Christian radio stations both then and now, Petra has managed to find a niche in the Christian Rock sound and continues to record fairly successful albums today.If you would like some praise & worship music that is a little harder than what you will find at church, this is a great CD for you."
