"If you could only buy one recording of Byzantine Music this would be it. If you have an extensive collection of Byzantine music, it would not be complete without this. Even if you don't understand Greek, this music will move your soul with its mystical aesthetic beauty and power.
Beginning with the music of Holy Week ("The Ninth Hour") -- the Passion, Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus Christ, Petros Gaitanos has reawakened a love for God and a love for the Orthodox Christian Byzantine musical tradition. He then adds to this and continues with the "Pentecostarion" (the liturgical period from Pascha, the Resurrection of Christ, to Pentecost). He then turns to the Nativity of Christ and His Theophany ("Light from Light" -- the original 12 days of Christmas -- Christmas to Epiphany), and lifts our spirits with the spiritual joy of this season. The fourth CD, only found in this compilation, is a liturgical musical tribute to the Theotokos (the Mother of God, the Virgin Mary), covering the major feasts in the Orthodox Christian tradition in her honor.
Yes the dollar to euro exchange does make this a pricey purchase. It is worth every dollar or euro and will be an amazing blessing to you and your walk with God for years to come. Try getting that kind of return on any other investment of $75.
Read the extensive liner notes. Though Petro's (or his translator's) English could use a little help, you will find his humility and deep love for God and His Church an additional inspiration. If you ever get a chance to see him live in concert, you will be literally struck by his beauty, both physical and spiritual, and overwhelmed with the joy of the Lord.
Praise be to God for his humble and faithful servant, Petros Gaitanos."
