Comes With that Fire...

"So I've listened to a fair amount of Christian rappers. You have T-Bone and GRITS who have a lot of skill, Cross Movement with a great message, KJ-52 and John Reuben with a bit less emphasis on thug life. They have all sorts of elements that I like, but they all have something they lack, at least in my eyes. T-Bone is good, but I don't like his "I'm the best rapper ever and I'm rich and if you believe in Jesus you'll be rich too" lyrics. The Cross Movement drops impressive lyrics, but often the beats can run together. KJ and JReu have shining moments, but often they get lost in filler.
Now meet Pettidee, easily the best mix of talent and message to date.
Yes, Thug Love has bad album art. But the 13 tracks inside the case are impressive. Thick, pulsating, "dirtysouth" bass underneath some catchy beats. A very distinct voice giving a great, honest message. Pettidee says it right towards the end of the album: He's just sharing his heart and what Christ did for him. He's not giving sermons with his lyrics but he's not glossing over anything about who he is.
The album has a nice mix of songs that could go in a club, songs that encourage, and songs that just narrate his life. Some are fast songs, some are slow songs. But the production is excellent (Trust me on this one, I cranked it today on a huge sound system and it still sounded great), and there are no tracks that I skip because I don't like them.
I've had this album for over a month now and I still feel the same about it: It's really good, and I would go as far as to say that it's the best rap album in my collection to date. Keep it coming, Petti!"

"If you like "dirty south" style rap (i.e. David Banner) then you will love this album. Pettidee sounds very much like David Banner and really presents a deep Christian message in his lyrics."
