Product DescriptionOrange Mountain Music is proud to announce the world premiere recordings of Philip Glass String Quartets Nos.6 and 7 by the renowned Brooklyn Rider string quartet. Glass composed five numbered quartets between the years 1966 and 1991. However since that time the composer did not write another quartet again for more than two decades. The album opens with Glass s 1995 jazzy Saxophone Quartet arranged for strings by Brooklyn Rider for violin, two violas, and cello which has become a staple of the saxophone repertoire. In 2013 Glass sat down to compose String Quartet No.6 it was a period of transition in his music and the result is a fascinating piece of music unlike any of his other works for the medium. The three movement work dense work stands in stark contrast to Glass String Quartet No.7 from 2014 which is written in a single 17 minute movement also receives its world premiere recording here. One of the most dynamic groups working today, Brooklyn Rider builds upon what they accomplished with their 2011 recording on OMM of Glass String Quartets Nos.1-5 and the suite from the film score BENT. Perhaps no other group in recent memory has so consistently championed the quartet music of Philip Glass as has Brooklyn Rider.
