"Earl Wild's virtuosity is beautifully showcased on this recording. He conveys both pieces' range of emotion and power without ever going over the top, and with clarity and precision. He does not "get in the way" of the music as some pianists might, but lets it simply flow through him, straight outta Rachmaninov's mind and into yours. Jascha Horenstein and the RPO provide first-rate accompaniment. In my opinion, an essential recording."

"These are the quintessential late Romantic piano concerti, and Wild was, and is, the master of this genre. Why he's not more celebrated I'll never know. These are big-hearted performances both from Wild and from Horenstein and the RPO. Good sound, too. Don't hesitate."
