Music AND Conversation

"The other reviewer here gave it a 2-star rating because every other track was conversation. Well, that is the whole uniqueness of this CD and of the entire series to begin with. The series consists of transcripts of Ms. McPartland's old NPR show. The wide range of skilled jazz artists in the series is testimony to Ms. McPartland's stature in the jazz world. That said, I loved the CD. As someone who has been a fan of Oscar Peterson ever since I started loving music, I have appreciated and admired his skill, his dedication and his intelligence. This CD shows the warm and generous side of Peterson, for someone as skilled as he is, he is incredibly modest and gracious. This is NOT easy listening, this requires an investment in time by the listener and is well worth it."
Oscar Reveals His Technical Secrets

(5 out of 5 stars)
"If you ever wanted to sit down with an artist and request tunes and then ask questions about how they achieve their mastery - then this is a CD for you. Mr. Peterson plays and talks about his elements of technique and style revealing what is in his head and heart that creates such a magnificent piano-jazz listening experience. Not just excerpts of piano playing, Mr. Peterson and/or Marian McPartland play their way through nine full length peices interspersed with tips, quips and stories. This is a MUST HAVE CD for anyone who dreams of or does play jazz piano. The non-instrumentalist among us will also enjoy hearing more of the great Oscar Peterson tickling the ivory."
