"The music on this disc immediately appeals to the ear. The Turina sounds very Spanish, the Granados less so. No justification exists for the neglect of chamber works such as we find here but the reason must be simple. Folk listen again and again to what they know. Unfamiliar names fail to attract and it would surprise me if a friend went to my collection and pulled out this CD of music by Joaquin Turina and Enrique Granados.Nobody is a Prophet in his own country. This certainly applies to Turina. We had guests for dinner the other evening. They are Spanish and from Sevilla the city where Turina spent most of his life. This music was on as our friends arrived. The Spanish sound of Turina attracted their attention and they wanted to know what it was. The name Joaquin Turina was entirely unfamiliar to them and their embarrassment became obvious. They had heard of Granados but never listened to any of his music. All's well that ends well. These two composers and their music have made new friends. We had to play the sixty minutes of well-performed,thoroughly enjoyable and highly recommendable music on this CD again."
