"One Richter recording no music fan should miss is his live performance of the Appassionata. Others have tackled the sonata's final at a similarly crazy pace, but no one keeps things so well in control as Richter does here. In short, it is one of the most exciting and technically astonishing performances available. There may be other performances that may be more accurate to the score (Arrau's, for instance), but that doesn't make this one any less unique."
