"There are a lot of them out there, but I feel this is the best one. Even better than Horowitz, and it takes a lot to "abandon" my favorite pianist! Nuances of dynamics, muscular pyrotechnics in "Great Gate" and "Baba Yaga," incredible nimbleness in the "Tuileries," and similar feats of pianism make this recording the standard by which other performances are based. Douglas won the Tchaikovsky prize (playing this piece) in 1986; the first non-Russian to win since Van Cliburn (1958)...a real feat! You will not be disappointed with this disk.
