"Jazz Combo with soaring, deep, rich orchestra flexing around Nino Rotunno's sad trumpet. "A Sentimental Attempt" has spun at least a thousand times on my CD player since I bought in in 1992. There's not a bum cut on this gem that clocks in at around 40:00. Just pure combo jazz - melancholy, reflective, sometimes finger-popping. The main title "Goddess in a Dream" rates up there with any romantic film theme from the 50s or 60s; it'll haunt you. I guess the operative word here in millenial speak is "Cool". Young kids may tag it "lounge", but that would deem it campy, and it's not. This is sweet, sad, solemn, darn fine, stretch-out jazz with some killer solos laced between the refrains here and there. It'll make your girlfriend put on those 6 inch stilletoes and walk her leopard down the street with a gold leash."
