"Although his sweet disposition gave him a teddy bear reputation, Monteux's performances are as powerful, lean and muscular as any. There are some sonic problems with this set--and the SF orchestra is not one of the best, but only the most hardened audiophiles will be disappointed with these performances. Monteux is consistently rated among the great and the legendary, yet he is still underrated."
