CD Reviews

Pirate songs sung by pirates
Linda L. Robinett | Ridgecrest, CA USA | 12/11/2008
(4 out of 5 stars)

"This privately published CD was created by a group of pirate re-enactors from the Southern California area. They perform at many of the Renaissance fairs. The performance is at professional level quality. Period instruments are used to accompany the vocals. I suspect that you all have heard the songs on this CD but it is a nice compilation of public domain songs.

Fire Maringo - a call and response shanty for coordinating work on the ship

Dead Man's Chest - based on a couplet from Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island

Hills of Connemara - drinking song

Down Among the Dead Men - empty rum bottles under the bar

Rosen the Beau - pub song

Sam's Gone Away - a song that is not about pirates

Captain Kidd - song about the famous captain

Nancy Whiskey - more drinking

One for the Morning Glory - About the women left behind

Parting Glass - Sung to remember pirates lost at sea
